I say refinances
You say Re-Fi
I say potato
You say "potahto"
Let's call the whole thing off

When I read people's notes sections, the abbreviations, and grammar mistakes just make me cringe. If you are talking over the phone to a friend, you have my permission to use the slang term "refi". But, if you are writing formal marketing literature -- and your notes section is just that, then please use REAL ENGLISH, and spell the word out.

Other common mistakse notaries make include when they list their specialties without matching singular vs. plural, or whether they add the term mortgages to all of the entries. Improper abbreviations are another issue.

Example of specialties documentation with mistakes:
I do Re-Fi's, first, second, reverse mtg, adjustable rate, construction loans, etc....

(1) As you can see, there is an APOSTROPHE in re-fi's, and you NEVER use an apostrophe to indicate a plural.

(2) The word "First" should be plural since you presumably have completed more than one First Mortgage. I often write 1sts & 2nds to save space if it is in the initial paragraph which partly shows up on the search result. It is also easier for the eye to process, even though it is not formal English to write 1sts & 2nds. Additionally, since 1sts & 2nds are a PAIR, I use the & symbol.

(3) Writing "Mtg" is unacceptable. This is a formal paragraph, and you should write complete English words, unless you are using a widely recognized abbreviated term such as NNA, HELOC, ARM, FHA, etc.

(4) The entry, "Adjustable Rate" is used without the term mortgage, making it inconsistant with the other entries on the list.

Here is my revision
Experienced in signing: refinances, 1sts & 2nds, reverse mortgages, ARMs, construction loans, etc....

My way of writing this is easy to read, and grammatical. I took a liberty with the ARMs to save space. I'm not sure if it is incorrect English to pluralize an ARM, but it is much easier to read than writing it out. The point of your notes section is to make it easy for people to know as much critical information about your abilities in as short a time as possible. Also, it is nice that I used mortgage in one entry and loan in another, mixing up the terms so it doesn't seem so repetetive. Making it easy to read gains you points!
