When I first began as a notary, I started asking borrowers at the time of appt. confirmation if they would like their copy burned to a CD. It didn't take long to realize that, while I may have been saving paper/cost, many of my borrowers had no computer or were technologically challenged. Not to mention the whole mistake/borrower copy advantage. I quickly realized the paper copy was more for my advantage than the cost factor and most borrowers preferred paper as well. |

The complaint I get from signers is that so much paper is being wasted. I print single-sided so that I can pull a clean copy from the signer's stack in case of an error, but if I were in a place where I could print a fresh page, I would print the signer's copy double-sided.

Many people accuse others of being double-faced. One day they are nice to you, but say horrible things about you behind your back. Well, these days, I am hearing that borrower's copies are being printed double faced.
I feel this is a problem. First of all, these are very sensitive and critical documents. To save a few dollars on paper for a $300,000 transaction is ridiculous. Second, sometimes the notary needs to grab a copy of the right to cancel, or perhaps a copy of some other document if the borrower signs incorrectly. It is CLEANER and a better practice not to do cross-outs, but simply to use a new form and start fresh when there is an error.
Have any of you ever used a borrower copy of a particular document when the original got messed up somehow? I did this several times in my career. Perhaps less than 1% of the time, but knowing this technique saved me many clients.
