Here are some 2004 Massachusetts notary exam questions.
I found these questions to be really funny half of the time.

True or false?

(1) A Massachusetts notary public is licensed by the attorney general.
(2) A person who is not a U.S. citizen may become a Massachusetts notary.
(3) A MA notary public may perform acts anywhere in the United States (unusual - unheard of)
(4) A MA notary's primary job is to witness signatures
(5) When the document signer is not present, the notary is permitted to notarize the signer's signature if the notary verifies the signature by telephone with the signer. (what if an imposter answers the phone? How can you verify if the signature matches the one on the signer's ID?)
(6) MA notaries may not certify a photocopy of a birth certificate or a deed.
(7) Massachusetts notaries may not notarize the signature of their spouse, domestic partner, parent, children, sibling, including half siblings, children in law, etc. (that spells it out)
(8) A social security card or supermarket check cashing card are not acceptable identification. (this is a vague definition)
(9) When notarizing, the notary should indicate in the certificate, the state and county of the notary's residence. (what about the state and county where the notarization is happening?)
(10) The ink on a Massachusetts notary's seal must be black.
(11) Massachusetts law allows a notary to charge $10 for administering an Oath.(generous compared to the fees for protests which are pennies)
(12) If a client asks for authentication for a notary's authority for a document being sent out of the country, the client should contact the county clerk's office.
(13) A notary may notarize the MARK of a person that can not make a normal signature. (This is normally an X, but California requires two subscribing witnesses as a precaution)
(14) If a document signer is blind, the notary should read the document to the signer prior to the notarization.
(15) The notary must maintain a detailed recordbook of all notarial acts. (They let attorneys and paralegals off the hook on this one)
