I should also point out that I did not mean to use the word "Lender" instead I should have said "send back with the loan package" again, thank you both.

I provide my W-9 to the hiring party only if asked for one. Usually they want it by fax or e-mail attachment. Never send your W-9 back to the lender.

Why in the world would you send your W-9 back to the lender? You need to provide your W-9 to whoever is engaging your services.

A borrower completes the W-9 to allow the lender to report interest on the loan to the IRS so the borrower, if eligible, can take the interest on the mortgage as a deduction.

You need to to provide the W-9 to the hiring agency (signing service, title company, etc.) so they can report your earnings to the IRS.

Carmen:
The escrow officer fills in the top portion of the borrowers w-9 and the borrower signs and dates the form after placing the social security number in place.
Would my W-9 be filled out with my FEIN at the same time with the borrower and forwarded back to the lender with the loan package?
