In PA, Signing Agents are still pretty busy. The Notary Academy does train PA Notaries to be signing agents. This course is very comprehensive and covers all aspects of the business. It was devised and authored by title agents and signing agents who have more than 10 years experience in this field. Our instructors are very successful ASA’s in PA, they are not just instructors. We teach the ins and outs of marketing, websites, safety issues and DMV training also. We cover all facets of work for a Notary in PA.
Our Notaries are taught what not to do and how to please their clients without crossing the line of the law. Our Accredited Signing Agent course is becoming a must have for Signing Agents in PA because our affiliated title and settlement companies come to us for referrals. Check us out if you are a PA Notary. www.thenotaryacademy.com Hurry....our classes fill fast!!

Actually, as least for CA, there is almost no one who wants to get into the loan signing business. We are getting under 5% of students we use to have attend a loan signing class.

In fact, again for CA, we are only getting about 1/3 of the Notary Students at www.notaryclasses.com where I teach and this seems to be the case at all the other schools that are still in business and hold scheduled classes.

We will have big decrease in CA Notaries in 2008.

Let's all hope the tide turns and business picks up in every state!

"If I said 10/08/07 I meant 10/08/2008"

Woops..no..that was my mistake....

Glad to hear you're back on track...but you have to admit this is a very tough and very slow market for a new person to break into...

The period from Oct 1 to Oct 8 was slow for me. It really picked up after the 8th and I am back on course for at least 35 this month. I use to do 60 a month and and recommend another 25 per month to my friends in the industry.

Now I don't recommend many signings to other notaries; I do almost all of them myself.

If I said 10/08/07 I meant 10/08/2008.

I think I am doing pretty well considering the Inland Empire is 3rd worst housing market in the US.

Not too many refi and the rest are foreclosure purchases with a few Reverse mixed in.

Joan - I'm not saying you don't know the industry but you need to make up your mind...here you say "I do 30-40 signings a month and I know the industry....and I am still doing these amount of signings"

However, on 10/8/07 you said "I really mean what does this bailout do for Notary public/ loan signers? I am doing 3 signings tomorrow, but, the last 10 days calls have been very few. I received a total of 6 calls for the last 10 days and I have averaged approx 3 (for loan signings) calls per day for the last year." And in other posts elsewhere you've admitted business has slowed for everyone, including you.

Doesn't look like you're doing 30-40/month any more, contrary to your statements. In all honesty, I don't think anyone is doing 30-40 a month any more, and this is a very misleading statement. MHO

I think we have great loan signing classes at www.notaryclasses.com.
I do 30-40 signings a month and I know the industry.

I co-authored How To Become A Wildly Successful Loan Signing Agent.

I am in the 3rd worst area for foreclosures and a 9% unemployment rate and I am still doing these amount of signings so I think I know something about marketing.

We have classes available in CA and the book is available for purchase throughout the United States at 1-800-873-9865 or on the website.

The August 2008 edition of Costco Connection had an interesting point regarding online learning. Here is the quote regarding Costco University:
“To make training easier and accessible for all employees, an online learning center called Costco University was developed, featuring virtual classrooms, e-learning courses, certifications and training manuals. Each department develops its own curriculum by utilizing internal subject matter experts or outside consultants.”
“Eileen Brown, manager of e-learning development, and Craig Crandall, business analyst, see more online training as a trend.”
“Studies show,” they explain,”that students who take traditional classroom courses are lucky to retain 30 percent of what they’re taught. But with multi-sensory e-learning courses, retention rates exceed 70 percent.”

I believe the course materials on 123Notary are well developed. The timed test is especially interesting in that it does not allow the notary to spend a great deal of time researching answers and basically checks your gut response.

Things are slow in the signing business, so there are probably no new courses for signing agents. 123notary.com has had a very comprehensive course for signing agents to learn loan signing for six years. Are there any other good courses out there?
