What is doc-jacking? That is when a notary hijacks loan docs that have been signed and won't release the docs until their unpaid jobs get paid. Well, doc-jacking seems illegal to me although I am not qualified to say, but you will get blacklisted in the loan signing world if you ever try doc-jacking. A few disgruntled notaries try it from time to time and I hear about it. The loan signing companies often talk to each other and warn each other about problem notaries.

dfye@mcttelecom.com:
Loan signing involves consideration (money). When you sign a loan for say 100,000 then you may as well treat the documents as though you are carrying cash.

If someone steals a car, it is considered grand larceny. Well the same applies to a loan. Even though it is on paper, it is still considered money. If you doc-jack then you may as well be guilty of grand larceny and could be held accountable in a court of law.

After all, it is not the borrower's fault that you did not get paid. The borrowers pay your fee out of their loan. If the signing company does not give you your share, shame on them. If you were the one signing the documents, would you want a notary to do that to you? This can cause all kinds of problems for the borrower and potentially destroy their good credit.
