BTW, If the FBI comes knocking on your door and you don't keep a journal you will be considered a suspect.
A notary should know the notary laws of his/her state backward and forward, cold (granted odd situations would require some research before completing) but most important, the notary should strictly adhere to those laws, no matter what is said, how much pleading is done or how much monetary compensation is offered.
Know your laws that govern your position and adhere to them...period. When in doubt, seek the advise of your legislative body and if no answer is forthcoming from them, then don't do it. I'd rather not do the job than do it wrong and pay the price later.

I think keeping a Journal is the best thing a notary can do to protect everyone involved, including the notary.
However, to the best of my knowledge, thumbprints are only required in CA and Cook County (Chicago), IL. Believe Texas specifically prohibits them. If you ask for a thumbprint in a state that does not require them, the signer can refuse.
If you don't value your time and experience, nobody else will. |

If you want to find popular posts, you can use the number of views filter. You can also see whats new with the active topics link. Email us at info@123notary.com if you need any help using the notary forum.
Resources
The notary public resource page is valuable as it has links to all of the free information pages for notaries. Pages linked to the resource page include a page that teaches you everything you need to know to get the most out of your listing. Another page teaches you all the secrets of getting paid.
