I received the following letter requesting a Mobile Notary for an attorney signing. In California, standard notary fees are $10 per signature (Acknowledgment/Jurat) and notaries charge a travel fee which varies some from notary to notary. It would almost seem that such attorneys are oblivious to State guidelines for signatures and at the very least unsympathetic as to time/travel/trip charges from notaries. Notice how the letter is purposely ambiguous as to the number of notarizations required? Notice how they wish to downplay the time to be spent on-site? Notice how they play up the fact that you will be paid immediately?
When quoting a GNW signing I ask: Where? What documents will be executed? How many signers?
This allows me to know where [how far] I will travel, how long the appointment will take and how much work will be involved...ALL relate to pricing.
My minimum trip charge (set long ago) is $39. So based on this offer a single signature is accounted for.

Hi,

We have a project suitable for you on Anymonth XX, 20XX at 00:00 a.m.

My name is BIG BOZO and my company is BB Legal | Financial.
We handle estate planning all over California.

We have a roster of approved mobile notaries to handle our projects and we have a need for someone in your geographic area to handle all our matters.

100% of the work concerns notarizing estate plans.
The typical project would be close to you so very little travel time would be involved.

Notaries like working with us because all of the work is in conjunction with attorneys so it is done efficiently and professionally. You never need to print or transport any documents ever ! Just meet the attorney close to your home, notarize the documents and be on your way.

We always pay immediately at the rate of $50 per project.

If you are available and would be interested in discussing becoming an approved notary to work with us, please email or call me at XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Thank you,
BIG BOZO
Attorney at Law

My question is: Who is out of line here? Am I wrong to feel offended? Are my standards too high?
