I agree on low balling it get ridiculous sometimes. They insult me when they say and we will pay $65. I reply my normal fee for this type of signing is $100 and then they choke on that response. I have stuck to my guns and it seems to be working. I always go the extra mile and think I should be compensated for my efforts as should all goods notaries should be.
Hang in there and stick to your guns, it makes it easier for all of us to get a fair fee. |

Most of my Loan Modifications have been through FASS, and I have never accepted a job for $35.00 They handle LM's for Wells Fargo. I start at $50.00, and ONLY if the borrower is local. Most of the time I tell them to meet me at my office, so there are no additional travel fees for me. Every once in awhile I end up driving locally usually about 5-10 miles. I have completed, I think, over 30 LM's so far for them, and all have been correct, though there are sometimes very fussy. I have also travelled and they agreed to one for $150.00 I figure, take my fee or leave my fee, but I am your local experienced LM signer. Several times I have been called because the LM was incorrectly signed, so I flag and write in Ultra Fine Sharpie on the sticky note for EVERY signature, to get it signed right. This is why every one has been correct. It's a little bit of extra work that saves me my fee. FASS has recently starting docking fees for mistakes, but they have also sent me a check for no mistakes, so their program has some incentives.

I wouldn't accept the assignment. It's my business and I have my base fees. If the caller doesn't want to pay my fee, they can keep calling around. The same would apply if I were a plumber, electrician, etc. I understand that people will call around looking for the lowest price for the service, but if my service is priced according to what I need to stay in business, I will not negotiate for anything lower. |

What is the consensus out there for notaries having to go to these loan modification signings for a measly fee of $35??? Isn't our time, gas, insurance, driving there worth more than $35.00? |
