This sounds like a very unfortunate incident! Generally I print everything they send me, as I wouldn't want to be responsible if they required those docs to be in the package and I made the decision what or what not to print. I do, however, make exceptions when printing the borrowers copies. I'm sure I'll get some flack for this, but when printing the borrowers set, I don't usually print them copies of the W-9, 4506t, lenders closing instructions, or the duplicate copies of the TIL, RTC and similar docs that will sometimes have multiple copies in the lender package. I've found that most clients (all actually) have never balked at not having these docs in their copy set as they've already signed most of them in the beginning of the process! It takes just a little more time to print, but with the PDF "pages" option I print all the legal and letter pages and then when I print the borrower copies I know which pages to select. It does save a lot on printing costs :)
I always print and give the borrowers all the copies of the hud, even if they are different. Let them sort that our with their LO.
Also, unless I've been told that the borrower will receive a copy directly from the lender (as Quicken does quite often) I usually wont make them a copy. However, when it's one of those awful car title loans or some other skeptical transaction, I will usually make the borrower a set even if it hasn't been requested. Those types of transactions, although none of my business, always leave me feeling a bit yucky inside so I like the borrower to have the opportunity to look over the information to make sure it's what they want to do.
One final note, I have a pretty good grip on which companies have large packages, and I generally charge more. When it's a new company, or one I haven't worked for, I usually will ask if the package is more than 120 pages right up front, so I know where to set my fee. Some closing are easier than others, let's face it!

Thank you for your comment. But could someone answer the questions? Do you give the client all the interoffice information?
It is common practice not to give the borrower a copy of the documents?
If you have several copies of the HUD I am assuming you use the last dated but do you still give them the older copy to?

If you work for uncoordinated companies, crazy situations typically happen. Late e-documents, wrong name variations, and more. Your situation is unusual and much worse than anything I've ever heard of. It makes for great reading material though.

I have done a couple of closings now and run across some problems. I usually get called a few hrs. before they want me there and I live in an area with heavy evening traffic and it can take 45 min to go 10 miles. I do not feel comfortable not looking over the documents and flag them.
Abort the signing due to date problems? This last package had a note on the instructions that advised abort the signing due to date problems. I asked her specifically about this and she said ignore it, once I got the docs, which took her an hr to get to me because of computer problems on her end. The file was 166 pages. I had asked at least three times, do you have the docs ready to go, as I have been burned on this and not getting home until almost midnight because the client went over every doc after some were missing information.
Unnecessary information? I think someone just scanned the entire customer file as there was interoffice type papers in there from loan company to title, and instructions for them, that did not relate to the client. DO YOU NEED TO GIVE THE BORROWER THIS KIND OF INFORMATION?
2 HUDS -- one loan? There were two approved copies of the HUD with different dates on them and different numbers and the dates were wrong but you answered that in another post and improtantly there was only the first page of the NOTE and I called her back and it's not 5:30 and asked to have the note resent and she said she I was to throw out what I had and she was going to send me a whole new package (332 pages to print)and would pay me a print fee for my time.
Why couldn't she just send the corrected page?
Copy of SS card without warning! Had this been early in the day I may have done it, but I had been very specific about the time factor and the after talking to the client who was already upset that they needed a copy of the social security card, which they had not told them about, but was in my instruction sheet I had another yellow flag. I knew they were going to go over the paper in detail....I told her I could not do that. The appoint was for 6:30 and I could redo all this and get there anywhere near the appointed time.
7 hours for $125 As you stated I could have just crossed out the incorrect date on my portions and the others docs were not important and what was she could have resent? I don't think a $25 reprint fee was worth this. The fee was $125 and for 6-7 hrs of my time not enough....cut my losses. This BTW was a firm that has a good rating.
Copies of docs with checking acct. info? Another co. told me not to make a copy of the doc for the borrower on a car title note. That had access now to his checking account for withdrawls and he wanted a copy of the documents and I don't blame him, I wouldn't have signed them so I let him make a set. Is this a normal process. From what I saw the loan co had already signed their poriton?
