Just a note I had one of those Legal Zoom trust package people who wanted me to help them with their trust documents. They either can't afford an attorney or believe the process is as simple as filling in a few blanks that they know it all. They then rely on notaries to tell them which documents need to be notarized and if any are missing from their experience notarizing trusts.

A guy called leading me to believe he had a typical trust package when it turned out to be two signatures. I slated my time for what is usually the trust, Health care directive, durable power of attorney for finances and whatever quit claim deeds are included. I anticipated five - six signatures.

This guy said he just wanted to do the trust to make sure his divorcee wife didn't get his property. In other words, he really didn't seem to know what he was doing at all.

These people who download Legal Zoom docs to save money are really taking a huge chance thinking it's a simple process. When they try to use notaries to ask if they have any missing documents, that amounts to asking for legal advice. Just refer them to attorneys which you know they will not ask because they can't afford or don't want to pay them. Let's face it, attorneys charge for trust by the package, and will not go around answering simple questions in most cases.

His reasoning about wanting to present his divorced wife from getting the property didn't make any sense for obvious reasons and he seemed to be making irrational decisions based on his emotional state of mind.

Sincerely yours,

Notary's Life
