It goes back to something I have been saying all along; understand the rules, laws, etc. before you become a notary. Know what is ethical and what is not. Also, READ YOUR CONTRACT with the company you sign with. Everything you can and cannot do is in there. If you sign the contract and go against anythng or everything in it, you are guilty of a breach and can or will be sued.

Unfortunately, loan officers have butted into the business that signing agents get and are cutting them off from signings that agents/notaries take much more seriously and work much harder for. It sounds as though the loan officers have a financial interest in the signing which makes it illegal for any notary to sign. I do not blame you for keeping a list and hope that you catch them all. What can I do to help?

Note: This post does not refer to every loan officer who has chosen to do signings. Perpetrators, you know who you are!

It seems that we have a lot of loan officers that have become notary/loan signers due to the fact that market is so slow. Now there is nothing wrong with that but this makes the 3rd time I have gotten a complaint on loan officers (who are advertising here) getting to the closing informing the borrower/s that they shouldn't sign the documents before them and that that they can get them a better rate/deal, etc. This is highly unacceptable. What are they thinking. Did they think the borrower would not complain or say anything about it. Maybe they just don't care. This kinda stuff gives us a bad name. Not to mention that I am sure it is illegal. (Debbi you may be able to shed some light on this for me)and if it is not it should be. Keep in mind that Jeremy is keeping a list and after so many confirmed complaints you will not be able to renew or you may be taken off the directory. It is bad for the directory. Its bad for us all.
