TGS really said it well.
All that I can add is to stress your willingness to travel and also to accept "off hour" assignments. That gets logged for when.....

1) Sign up for as many signing companies as possible. No less than 200, ideally 300+. Make sure to research them, cross referencing them with the reviews on this site and on Notary Rotary. That said...
2) Sign up for a paid listing here and on Notary Rotary. Most notaries will agree those are the two best sites to advertise your services. Prices vary but I ended up paying $120 for each site. Keep in mind that’s for a whole year, not monthly. Make sure your listings are spelling/grammar error free. 123notary provides tips as you set up your listing which helps a lot. I basically set up my notes here and then copy and paste everywhere else.
3) Get your own website. Doesn't have to be really fancy at first but just real easy to read/navigate and provide useful information. I'm still using the one that was provided to me when I originally purchased my loan signing class package but I believe you can get a domain with hosting for as low as $50 a year from GoDaddy.com.
4) Sign up for as much free advertising as you can such as www.yellowpages.com, Google Local Places, Yelp, etc etc. I've actually got some work from my free yellow pages listing based on my 5 star rating. That said make sure you ask customers to rate you on as many of your listings as possible. If you having a hard time getting those reviews try offering a discount on their next notarization if they provide you with a favorable review. 50/50 they'll take you up on it.
5) Consider passive advertising methods such as car door magnets and license plate frames. They allow you to advertise your services every time you go out, even if it’s just to the grocery store. A rear license plate frame allows the opportunity for drivers behind you to jot down your number every time you're at a red light or stuck in traffic.
6) Get business cards and hand them out like mad. I even fail at this at times and I need to get better at it. Also magnetic business cards as people tend to actually keep them and use them.
Other than that Vistaprint is your friend. I get my business cards, car door magnets, etc from them. They offer really good prices and hand out coupons like crazy.
Please note there are no guarantees doing any/all of this will provide you with work but it is what I have done so far since starting my business in May and is what many other notaries have done also. Good luck.

Carefully review the profile you are posting. Make sure they are direct, straight to the point. Maybe ask someone else to review it and give you their opinion.
Sign up with as many companies as you can and get yourself listed on as many sites as you can.

I obtained my Florida Notary Seal last year and took the course to become a Signing Agent and got my Certification in Signing as well. It has been over a year now and no one has called me for a signing. I am a member of the National Notary Association and listed there as well. I don't understand why I haven't gotten any calls. Also, now I am in Highlands County Florida doing a temporary nursing assignment as I am also a Nurse. This area is starting to boom so I would assume there would be a need for Signing Agents here as well. Can someone please tell me how to get my name out there as being available. I appreciate any ideas anyone may have. Thanks! |

Tips for using the forum
The most important feature on the forum is the search box. You can look up a particular word, phrase, name of a company, and see a potentially large list of search results with which you can obtain data. Filters are also valuable. If you want to find popular posts, you can use the number of views filter. You can also see whats new with the active topics link. Email us at info@123notary.com if you need any help using the notary forum.
Resources
The notary public resource page is valuable as it has links to all of the free information pages for notaries. Pages linked to the resource page include a page that teaches you everything you need to know to get the most out of your listing. Another page teaches you all the secrets of getting paid. There is a link to our free list of signing companies. There is also a glossary, learning tools, and much more.
If you are a notary, the free tips we give are invaluable.
