I also highly recommend a mentor. Mines the instructor I took my first notary and loan signing classes with. She was a great teacher and has 25+ years experience. To this day I still on occasion call her if I have a tough question I need answer.

Having a skilled and talented mentor is a very valuable asset when you're first starting out as you'll have many "I never ran into this before, oh crap what do I do?!" moments. It's only once you got a hundred or so signing under your belt do you really begin to feel comfortable and confident about your skills as a notary signing agent.

Hi I recommend finding a mentor with a good reputation!! Maybe someone from 123Notary can help you with finding a mentor in NC or they can help you? You should really find someone willing to help you so you do not make mistakes when starting out! I will keep an eye out for your question if I can help I will answer your questions. I am still a newbie but our service so far has been stellar no complaints!

Is it better to learn as you go from doing everything yourself, or has anyone sought after a mentor who has many years of experience? Of course thats just assuming someone else would be even willing to help me, seeing as I am the competition (if they work my county too).
