Last Fall I was thinking of moving my business elsewhere in California but then November and December ended up being the best two months I've had since starting my business in August. It might be worth it just to wait it out a little longer if possible. Although there are so many factors to consider. Trust your gut.

First off what a pain...packing then unpacking! I dont envy you at all (if you decide to make the move) :).

Starting over in this business will be hard. As Linda stated the competition may be fierce in the area that you are thinking of moving. Do as she suggested and see what your competition looks like before you go. Most of the notaries that have relocated her at 123 have told me that it is very difficult getting started in the new area. But, what I tell them is that the best thing they can do once the move is complete is call all of their existing clients and let them know their new location. This way if they are a nationwide company they might be able to use them.

Good Luck!

It's also going to depend on where in Florida you go - how densely populated it is, is it urban or rural? I'd do a zip code check here and on NotRot - get an idea of the competition you'll be facing - if you're doing loan signings, it will also give you an idea of what fees you can charge....if there are very few notaries you may command higher fee - too many notaries in the area you're going to have to take lower fees to get any work.

You may want to start looking for a 9-5 to hold you til you can establish your notary business, but prepare yourself for that "sticker" shock too - wages down here are very very low.

Good Luck.

This is probably very area-specific depending upon how much competition and similar business exists in both places. I relocated from WI to AR and it was pretty painful. Took about 6 months to get them realizing I'm not in WI any more. Really was like being a newbie.

Many of the companies (SS, TC & the Lenders) that I did business with in WI didn't have much/any business in AR, so had to find new business here. Also quickly discovered that the fees I charged in WI would no way work in AR.

So I'm thinking of relocating down south. Has anyone relocated and how has that affected their contacts and number of closings??
I will have to relinquish my Ohio license to obtain an Florida one. I will be out of work at least 6 months. I am in just the thinking about it stage....
