I hate to admit this, but my first signing was with SOX. I'll bet they filtered through the list of notaries names until they found a new one. I eagerly accepted the call, not knowing the negative ratings they have. Fortunately, I was paid for this signing, although it took over two months to receive the check. From start to finish I was really nervous, not sure if I was printing everything out right, figuring out where they sign, initial, etc. Plus their loan packages were huge-almost 150 pages! The borrowers were very nice, they probably couldn't tell that I was nervous wreck and somehow I got through the signing in about an hour with no problems. There was only a minor issue with the spelling on the wife's name. I sent off the package and never heard about it again, which is always a good sign.

For a company called Dynamic Field Solutions. They called and BEGGED me to do a signing that night. It was really hot and humid. I printed everything out and made sure everything was fine. I got all the way over there, and realized I left my equipment at home! I guess I was really nervous! I had to rush home and grab everything! I called my husband and asked if he would meet me out front with it. I grabbed it and ran back to the signing. I finished in about 2 hours. The people were sooooo very nice. Then two days later, DFS called and said they needed a few other papers. I said I would go back and have them sign. Little did I know, that my first signing would NEVER be paid for! I had one other signing. I am now wondering if I should renew, as I have had no other calls. I also HAD a friend who said they would mentor me, but this FRIEND never called. Oh well.

My first signing (back in year 2003) took fore-e-e-e-ver to complete. Let me say that the person who assigned the signing was quite strict and demanded no errors (!). (THANK YOU WHOEVER YOU ARE FROM THE ESCROW COMPANY!!!)

I was very lucky to receive my very first loan package all labeled with “SIGN HERE”, “INITIAL HERE” NOTARIZE HERE”, “DATE HERE”. Even though everything was relatively easy, I think I spent more than 2 hours at the signing table. Checking every page over and over again, and then checking all the pages one more time at the end of signing…
That was good example for me and set the standard for the signings to come….

OMG, I will NEVER forget my 1st signing!!! I did my 1st signing in Tampa Florida. I was sooooo nervous and excited I missed printing the last icon on the list (it was hidden from view)!!! There was a very long list of files to print and, unbeknownst to me, it was a 1st and 2nd Mortgage!!!!(Live and learn -- always print out the page where all the pdf files are listed so you can physically check them off and write down the number of pages to keep you straight!!!) Luckily, the Borrower was able to print the missing HUD!! After the signing was complete (or so I thought)I was so nervous I did not review the docs for missing signatures, etc.

I was at their door the next morning at 6 a.m. getting the missed signature!!!

It was a real nightmare, but I learned alot from my 1st signing. Always ask what kind of signing it is, refi, purchase, etc. Always review the docs before leaving. Get a rubber finger so you can fly through the pages!!!

I am now a Maryland Title Producer and happy to say I've notarized hundreds of successful loans.

This question is for newbies, but anyone an answer.
What was your first signing like? Were you nervous?
If you have never done a signing, what goes through your mind about what you are worried about, or what you think might go wrong?
