It's not only the distance.

This smog bound worm at the heart of the Big Apple (Manhattan) has a greater concern - TIME.

"El Cheepo Signing" says "It's only 9 miles" - my reply is "we drive at an average speed of 2-3 MPH (honest!). Thus, it can take literally 2 HOURS (each way) - sounds unbelievable? - Drive Here!

Also add to the pain - TOLLS - New York City is 5 separate counties connected by bridges and tunnels that charge about 7 bucks - each way!

Lastly, due to our dense traffic add to the mix "time of day". Often the borrower wants to do the signing at 8 PM - after they get home and have their dinner. They left work at 5 to be home at 7......

OOPS, forgot bonus "time points" for holiday weekends, snow storms, any Friday evening, even light rain will add greatly to the trip.

To paraphrase the classic Lincoln quote of "A Lawyers Time and Advice are his Stock in Trade" -

A Mobile Notaries Travel and Seal are what you are paying for!

I simply wont go that far.
Did it once and got beat out of my money.
I guess if it was for one of my better companies I would try and help them all that I could but to travel that far for $120 is ridiculous.
I usually get $125 locally.

120 miles round trip with edocs? That's not a terribly unusual circumstance in my area, where I am often asked to travel 30+ miles each way. That's the Mojave desert for you.

Just the excess mileage fees alone on a 120 mile RT job would be about $75.00 or so. Then we add the edoc fee and NSA fee? Easily $200. Though, like Shannon mentioned, for the right circumstances, I might go lower. I wouldn't do that for less than $175, though.

I'd get $175 + $25 for the edocs...but I might take it for $175 total if it was slow... But $120? NFW
