I am a Notary first and Signing Agent second. I do three times the general notary work than loan signings. My business is increasing. The other day, I notarized the signature on a POA for a man to handle his hospitalized elderly father's banking. In prior times, some banks would accept any POA with the signature notarized, then some banks were requiring that their bank generated POA form be utilized...now, some banks won't accept a POA without a letter from a doctor (signature must be notarized) saying the patient is incapacitated and cannot come in person to do their own banking. So in addition to the POA and travel fee, I am now getting another notarization and travel fee to go to the doctor's office to notarize his signature on the letter required by the bank. I make steady money each week with general notary work, about $100+ each week.

As we all know the economic state of the US is pretty dismal (although there is a glimmer of recovery) and times have increasingly become rather tough for most of us. For many years we had the luxury of loans to keep us very busy, but these have fallen off significantly as we all know due to many factors. Personally, I have found it necessary to really take a good hard look at what I can do to generate more income as a notary public. I found that although the loans have significantly decreased in California, as well as for most of the country for the time being the need for regular mobile notary work has increased. So with that in mind I have been proactive in getting my name out there, via the web and just being a foot soldier putting my cards in the right hands be it for immediate or future use. I was curious as to what all of you were doing to 'survive the times"?
