jburkhalter; regarding iPhone/ipad applications
Thanks for the information! I use the map program on my iphone as a backup to my car navigation. I also use the AroundMe application all the time for finding stores, coffee, food, etc. Like others, I also like to use google maps for mileage and for the overall route.
Are you also a Mac computer user, and if so, what printer do you use?

For iPhone or mobile iPad users, I recommend the LogMeInIgnition application. The app lets you log in to your computer and view it as if you were in front of it. This has allowed me to print docs while on the road, swing by my home office, and back on the road in a minute. I have been able to accept the in-between closings that paid for this app within a few days. The price is $29 and likely will pay for itself immediately. |

Hi all! I am new to the forum and starting a mobile notary business. I thought I would chime in here. kandy 1099 has really covered most bases.
I just want to add that for faxing, we use a service called myfax, being the professionals that you all are, I'm sure y'all are aware of this service. They upgraded the accounts. It used to be $10 per month for 100 pages. It is now $10 per month for 500 pages. There is a second plan, $15 per month for 1000 pages.
If you have a Blackberry, there is a myfax app, that you can use to fax and receive faxes. It is email based. It is also compatible with Outlook.
Many of you may balk at the amount of pages that are included as these are incoming and outgoing combined. Myfax will also give you a quote should you need more pages. I live in a rural area and we are in the beginning stages of building the business, so this works for us to keep our costs down.
*We also plan to add on-demand faxing for our clients as it is almost fifteen miles to the nearest town. We are all about convenience for our clients.*
I hope this helps!
A work in progress... |

Hi, Sorry about the delay... I got my mobile laser printer and handheld scanner at staples. I use a power converter. When I went to buy the converter the guy helped me pick the right one, so that I could get enough power to run the printer without damaging my battery. As for faxing on the road, the only option I can do is scan in the documents on the handscanner and email or efax them from my car.

Yvonne - I can't help with the other questions, but here's a tip about fax-backs. For refi's in borrower's homes, when the client asks for fax-backs I reply "No problem at all - but that'll probably delay shipping until the next day."
Usually, they tell me to ship instead. |

Kandy 1099, it has been a while since your post about all the technology you use. Way to go girl, you are prepared. I never did see answers to questions about what type of battery you use for the portable laser printer. What series is it and if you don't mind sharing about how much was it? Also, can you fax on the go? This has been a big dilemma for me, I tend to beg not to fax back anything a. because I am very detailed and good at what I do and b. just to avoid going back to home office. Do you use your phone to scan licenses? Thanks for the answers. I tried to email you but it said not functioning because of possible spam issues.

Kandy, do you have the ability to FAX documents from your mobile office as well?

WOW Kandy you are definitely prepared for anything they might throw at you!! Very professional on your part. Did you have to have a special battery installed for your car?? And if so if you dont mind approximately how much did it run you?

I found one notary who had a mobile office. James Habicht in Maryland is very well prepared for business. I'm going to email him and see if he would like to share some commentary.

I am out of touch with new technology, but a printer has to be laser or it shouldn't be used in loan signing. I'm sure you can fit a relatively small one in your car. It seems worth it for a serious signer to do so.

I've heard of people with printers in their trunk, but when you get more details, there usually inkjets, so loan doc's are out of the question.
I can't imagine the power draw a laser printer would make on the poor inverter... and ultimately car battery, to run one. The inverters must be hard wired, 'cause the power draw on a inverter in a cigarette lighter outlet would concern me over causing a car fire. The metal these are made out of is extremely thin, and typically touching plastic.

The really serious mobile notaries and signing agents often have a mobile office, or at a minimum, lots of mobile electronic equipment. Having a laptop with a wireless card can help you get e-signings which is another way to attract more business and stand out. Its also a way to keep up with emails while you are on the road.
If you get a portable laser printer, then you can print work confirmations and documents on the road. Most notaries have to go all the way home to print documents. With a portable printer, you can save time and impress your clients.
Everybody has mobile phones these days, but can you browse the internet on yours? Being able to research signing companies on the fly will get you ahead. If XYZ signing calls you for a job, you take the job, look them up, and find out they don't pay, you can decline the job while they still have time to find someone else. Just look them up on various forums using your portable internet mobile phone!
