I have the same concern. I used my Adobe program to place a watermark on a scan of my commission that says:

"COURTESY COPY ONLY"
"NOT VALID FOR ORDERING NOTARY SUPPLIES"

If you do not have Adobe standard or professional, you can simply make a copy of your commission, write the words over it with a black sharpie, and scan it to your computer for emailing or keep the copy to fax when requested.

Here in VA, notaries cannot be looked up online. To inquire about a notary requires a written request to the Sec. of State.

I just returned from the SOS notary workshop, I attend each year to update myself on any new information. When asked for a copy of your notary commission, the SOS is instructing us DO NOT SEND this. The SOS does not want copies of our certification out there that can be used to obtain notarial stamps. The alternative is to go on the SOS website and print out the page that tells your commission is current.

Just thought I would share this.

Happy Signings!
