I am happy & relieved to report that I recieved a check from SOX last Saturday. It was only 120 days late! I did file with the BBB and SOX refuted it immediately saying I had already been paid. The other 290 complaints about SOX on BBB speak volumes. Obviously I will never work for them again. Forunately companies such as this seems to be the exception rather than the rule but one usually finds out about the bad ones the hard way. I am still upset with SOX's business practices and would be more than willing to pursue some sort of action along with anyone else who has been negatively impacted by SOX. This is one apple that should be pitched out to rot! |

I am new to this forum but the topic is a timely one as I too am attempting to collect payment from SOX. I wish I had know they had such a terrible record. I would like to see them put out of business. They have owed me almost $700 since September, 06. I have been told 3x the check is in the mail. I'll believe that when I see it! I will be filing a complaint with BBB right away. Any other suggestions to collect and or warn others about their horrible business practices? |

i was not paid by 24-7 nation wide notary network. i called the borrower and the bank loan officer to report them. i got my money overnighted the next day.
they tried saying i made the borrower miss work to do the closing. and they where not paying me also said the borrower would speak to me they thought i did a bad job. i called the borrower and told them what was said and they were mad and they called 24-7 they refused his call.

If you guys organize, then if several of you are owed by the same company, you have more leverage if you work as a group. You might also be able to afford legal help more easily as a group ( if you don't argue too much among yourselves ). |

Have you ever looked at your Notary Certificate? Mine says Esquire right after my last name so it is legitimate for me to use Esquire after my name. I am not a lawyer yet but am proud to carry the title.
On another note, I can no longer assist anyone with payments from SOX. The woman I was using for payment is not working for them anymore. Kind of makes you wonder. Hmmm. I have also stopped writing letters to companies that do not pay as they virtually rest upon blind eyes.
I make a copy of EVERY check that comes in as some do not come with stubs.

One more thing - your invoices should always inform the client that you will add a late charge to bills more than 30 days past due. I use 10% as a late charge, and my deadbeat rate has since dropped to virtually nil.

Not many people are aware that the title "Esq." after a person's name is essentially meaningless. The dictionary tells us that "esquire" is "a title of courtesy, placed after a man's surname and corresponding, more ceremoniously, to Mr". The legal profession in the US has appropriated the term to denote themselves, but there is NOTHING that stops the rest of us from putting "Esq." after our names too!
My collection technique is simple, and 100% effective. I send the deadbeats a letter in intense legalese, putting "Esq." after my name on the letterhead, citing California or Federal code (as appropriate - Google is your best friend), and giving them 7 days to pay or I will file suit. In every case, the recipient has assumed it comes from an attorney, and coughed up by return mail.
By the way, make sure you take a photocopy of the first check you receive from each payer. If you ever need to sue them later, and win, you can collect very easily if you have all the bank account details that are on their check.

RE: Signatures Plus I told them I will put a lien on the borrowers home and they said, do that ever you want. I am sending letters to each borrower (more than 20) to let them know and CC to the Lender and the Lenders Company President, and any one else I can find that is associated with them. Lia, Indiana |

There are numerous ways to go when it comes to companies that do not pay. Rather than talk about what you are going to do, just "do" it. I have been turning people over to collection via OldDebts.Com (recommended by NNA) and they have been doing a good job for me so far. I am using their letters, they cost me $12 for their letter service, and have been collecting my full amount from such people as Loan Signers Inc., and the infamous "SOX" signing service. If I have a signing fee of $75, and it cost me $12, I still get $63 back. Makes me happy and then I never do business again with them. |

Dunn & Bradstreet also has a great collection program as well. They have 3 different tiers of collection service, I've only used level 1 as soon as a signing agency receives a letter from them payment has been in my hand within the week. |

SOX out of California owes me $315.00 from 9/19/05 through 12/5/05 and although I have threatened suit, they have done nothing. It appears that I may have to hire a lawyer to collect.

Jeremy, I believe that I got this idea from you awhile back and it has been very favorable for me so far. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau for Around Towne Closing Service (payment still pending); Dakota Creek Services (DCS) and received my overnighted check in the mail on Saturday and Signatures Plus - received my money a few weeks ago. Just go to their website (BBB's) and type in the name of the company and you will be amazed at what you will learn. My friend filed a complaint oon SOX and they ended up having 60+ complaints on their website about this company. DCS has received an "F" rating and Signatures Plus had 30+ complaints on them from notaries. Let's band together and get this ball rolling. I am going to file another complaint today for Veridox - as they have not paid me yet for services rendered and I see other forums that this is yet another no-pay signing company out there.

As a paralegal, I have used my own letterhead to send collection notices. Only occassionally has it worked. Lawyers may not always be an option as they may charge you for their services. I will gladly write letters for anyone who wishes. Not a gaurantee but still worth a try. Email me.

I am having difficulty in getting paid by signing companies. I am considering contacting the people contracting the signing companies and let them know that their people are not paying the notaries. I don't know, it's a thought. |

So who has one of those "fictitious" letters from an attorney that we can use? |

Raising the heat and making signing companies uncomfortable is the best way to get paid. A letter from an attorney is one way to raise the heat. Signing companies do not want legal problems. A letter from an attorney can be very intimidating. The letter does not guarantee that you will get paid, but you will leave a lasting impression and will increase your chances of getting paid. |
