Not sure where you're from but here in FL notaries are not authorized to fingerprint. Fingerprinting has to be done by an approved state vendor (Paul will probably chime in here and clarify my statements...) You should check with your SOS and with appropriate state departments to see (a) if you're authorized to do them; and (b) what's required to get you authorized if you really want to do it. Might google "<<state>> fingerprint vendors" and see where that takes you.

This quote you provided..."The authority for me to fingerprint comes from my New York State Notary Commission, allowing me to administer "oaths" and "establish identity"....I totally disagree with this - notaries establish the identity of their signer through photo ID (driver's license, passport, state-issued ID card, etc., etc) or CW's or whatever method the state sets out as acceptable - I'm not sure a state would say fingerprints are a way to identify the signer - how in the world do you establish identity with a fingerprint? Did this poster have access to worldwide fingerprint databanks to run the prints to determine who was standing in front of him? I doubt it...this statement is just silly IMO.

Good Luck..

I noticed many notaries do fingerprinting. Is it worthwhile? Is the seal put on the fingerprint card? My state notary handbook does not mention how to properly do fingerprints.
