OK, OK... I know this topic has been discussed many times before, but I'm hoping many are willing to share detailed information to help other notaries regarding their fee schedule. Although there are many variables such as location, etc., detailed information would give most signing agents (myself included) a magnificent start to changing the low-balling that is becoming all too common.
Another post contained an extremely useful link provide by Linda; http://unitednotaries.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=445&Itemid=6. Once calculated, it would probably be surprising to see what most signing agents *should* charge for their services.
That being said, with a bit of research I learned that many signing agents get paid on average from $100-$150 for a simple refi; i.e. no edocs, faxbacks, etc. Personally, my primary business comes from SS's who offer 25-50% less than that. For those of you who *do* get this amount, a few questions (almost a survey that I'd be glad to compile and post if enough respond) that many would be grateful for the answer:
1) What state are you in?
2) Is your area remote/rural, urban/city, surplus of notaries or no?
3) Do you work primarily with signing services or title agencies/lenders?
4) If both, do you have separate fees for each? What is your fee for (included information for any/all that apply and, if separate fees for SS vs. title, please specify): *simple refi *refi with e-docs *reverse mortgage *reverse mortgage with e-docs *piggyback loan (same appointment)
5) Do you have a website? If so, do you find that you obtain business from the website? If so, who are your primary customers (i.e. title, lender, SS, invididuals)?
6) If you could give one bit of your best advice regarding breaking free of the SS's and getting more title agency/lender business, what would it be?
Thanks in advance for any and all information you share. Let me first say, I'm not a signing service nor am I in cahoots with one so this is not a *shopping* email. But I really believe that the change everybody would like to see in this industry is only helped by tossing away any *competition anxiety* that might be present and sharing this kind of information.
