I believe the $90 offered is a result of the NNA at one time publishing a minimum fee table for notaries (it was removed from that website last year). When I asked the NNA about the fee table, they explained to me that the minimum fee table, published several years ago, was intended as a starting level minimum to be asked for and accepted by entry level notaries that needed help from various signing companies to help get assignments, walk them through the paper work, be available to them during the closing for questions, and to assist with follow-up when needed following the closing. They did not expect experienced notaries to accept the minimum fees.

As has been discussed many times on this and other forums, this country still holds competition as a given factor and most (certainly not all) signing services are trying very hard to solicit business from Title Companies for a decent fee, then paying an absolute minimum that they can get someone to accept the work assignment for. Each notary needs to prepare a business plan that details the income and expenses of the business and adds the needed income expectations on top of that to the notary. It is unlikely that an experienced notary can expect to be able to efficiently run a full-time mobile signing service for many of the fees that are currently being offered by most signing services and a few of the Title Companies.

Most of the “price fixing" discussions that have been made have been centered around various notary support groups that have suggested minimum fee levels of the members. Most have now changed the discussions to center instead upon pricing your fee on the income and expense models that each individual notary needs to consider when pricing services. Just my opinion.

Does anyone out there think that signing companies are Price fixing. I have received calls from 4 or 5 companies offering a 90 dollar rate. This is suspicious activity to me. Does anyone else have evidence of this.
