I have been doing loan signings for a couple of years and I have only had two signings that had to be adjourned because a spouse left the table and didn't return. These two signings had a common thread...men and trucks.
The first was over a year ago. When we reviewed the HUD, he looked at her and said, "I thought we were paying off my truck." She said they couldn't do it just then. He said, "Well if we're not paying off the truck, I'm not signing." And he picked up his truck keys and drove away.
The second was last night. When we reviewed the first payment letter, she said, "I thought our payment was going to go down." He said it was until he decided to take out the cash to payoff his truck. She excused herself and went upstairs...then didn't come back down. I small-talked with the husband for about five minutes and then suggested he go check on her. When he came back down alone, I suggested we adjourn the signing.
It makes me wonder how many mortgages need bailing out because pickup payments were rolled into home equity! Maybe GM does need to be part of the bail-out!
