Said attorney called me to chat yesterday. He said he was doing *any* loan signings for $350. He will travel and does a general notarization for $80.

Key Word..."Helocs"....$350 for a Heloc....probably double if they were to do a full loan, no? Or are TX Helocs TX sized??..<G>

Full loan, cash outs, Helocs, doesn't matter. If he does it in his office, that's the rate.

Peter, In my area I have a lawyer I refer Helocs to. (Helocs in Texas have to be closed in a title company, a law office, or a branch of the lender.)
His office charges $350 to print and perform the loan document signing appointment.

Attorneys pay thousands for their malpractice insurance, and if they do title work it's an additional charge (for the rider)...the premium is dependant on deductible chosen, the nature of the policy as far as claims are concerned, obviously, the amount of coverage along with the additional riders...don't forget, attorneys carry a whole lot more liability into a closing than we do as SA's - they have full responsibility for the loan - they can't sit back and say "sorry, not my job"...

I know that when I do a loan it depends on the area but LindaH hit it for NC as well ($400-$600). The lawyers in large cities charge the most. The title insurance varies based on the value of the property, but I usually approximate it at $2.00 per thousand for a purchase of the GFE.
I personally would not do a purchase as a signing agent, but that's just me. |

If it's anything like the firm I worked for, it's $400-$600 (or more if issues arise that they have to deal with) plus title fees (title search, title ins. commission, title bringdown fees, etc., etc.)..but let us not forget the premiums attorneys pay for their professional liability insurance.
