Burton,
When a notary has repeatedly requested the money that is due them it is time to take action. If threats are what moves them to pay then so be it. Trust me, for a notary to use the letter in the first place means they have exhausted every other option. The time for playing nice has ended. The letter has proved effective for many of us. Obviously you must be new to this business. Me thinks you have way to much time on your hands. Must you respond to every single post on every directory?????

Here goes the letter as I have used in the past. It has worked for me with great success.
Dear So and So.
(Here I state a brief recap of the previous communications that were sent and the result of that communication). I therefore must remind you of the following:
I am a sworn public official from the State of (your state. When a fraud is perpetrated in the course of my official duties, I feel obligated to take the following action (IN THIS ORDER):
a. Notify the Attorney General of the details and circumstances of the occurrence.
b. Notify the (your state) Secretary of State to look into the matter of whether the Lender/Title Company should maintain their license to do business in the state. Supply the same details to the Secretary of State.
c. Notify other notary publics of the details of non-payment.
d. Contact the Lender/Title Company
e. Register the details of the occurrence with the BBB.
The above actions as outlined above will commence on MONTH, DAY, 2008 if our office does not receive payment before that date. Please send payment to:
And then I entered my mailing address. The date I used was FIVE DAYS from the date of the email/letter I sent. I sent this by certified mail as well as to email and fax it over every day so as to annoy them. Also, cc: an attorney at the bottom of the letter if you have one.
Hope this works as well for you as it did for me.
Good Luck!!

In my list of priorities, I would start by informing the title company that hired the folks who hired my company; but only after a fair warning as mistakes do occur and threats should be used only as a last resort. Sometimes, you have to hit the old mule in the head--why--to get his attention!

I read one of the forum answers and it was mentioned that you gave a collection letter outlined. Where is that located on the website?
