We have "regular" car insurance on our vehicles, but when we discussed it with our agent, I described what I do and how the vehicles are used to get to a client's home - they added a rider to the policy (about $50/6 mo. term) to reflect the vehicles' use during the course of business - this way, I guess if I'm in an accident on the way to a client's home there won't be any denial of coverage. I do not have a commercial policy and it wasn't indicated one was necessary as the vehicles are not STRICTLY used for business purposes - they're mainly for personal use.

Wow!! I have never heard this before; this is a first. All the notaries I know have regular car insurance. Our car insurance has really nothing to do with the services we perform.

Hi! I am in CA. At a business seminar the instructor told me yesterday that one needs to have "commercial" car insurance if one does have a business and advertises with vinyl lettering on the car window. (She said vinyl ads automatically make your car a commercial vehicle) Now, does this hold true for notaries? How do you hold insurance? Do you apply for commercial insurance or just regular with giving the approx. mileage that you drive to work to in a year? Any clarification is welcome. THX
