Great idea, Ed. I have a yahoo address I've had for 7 years for the same reason.

I am currently on a quest for a way to have one phone number for life. I checked out Grand Central by Google but that won't work for me. Callers have to jump through too many hoops. New potential clients won't put up with that.

I have Voip and cell service. Love 'em - so cheap! But the sudden demise of SunRocket where everyone lost their phone number in a blink scares me.

My email address is kene@pobox.com (among some others also at pobox) and I have been using that address for over TEN years. I have had several ISP's but my email address (on my business card) never changes. I use www.pobox.com as my "fowarding service" - mail sent to kene@pobox is sent to (currently) my Verizon account. Also my cell phone gets an IMAP (lower character count - headers only) at the same time - or I can just log into pobox from Kinkos, or a client site. The cost? for all options is $50 a year. I have been using this service for over a decade and it is VERY rarely "down". And when it is, the POST to their web site - why and when it will be back. No runaround that your PC is not properly configured like "Time Warner".
I get a bunch of "alias" emails that are processed exactly the same as my kene eg: nynotary@pobox.com etc. They have mailbomb and very controllable spam filters and many other features - and humans who read (carefully) your "help/configuration" question and give prompt and intelligent answers - not form letters. NO - I dont own stock in www.pobox.com - but if they went public I sure would buy some.
Ken
