You can notarize almost any document from anywhere. The document could be in Chinese language and be from China. Just make sure you can identify the signer and have them sign the doc and your journal. The main thing is that you must not physically be outside of the state that you are commissioned in when performing a notary act or you could get in trouble.

I often get investment property loans where the property is located out of the state I reside in. It is perfectly okay to notarize the documentation in your own state providing you put your personal venue in your jurat.

In my state, we have what is called Commissioner of Deeds which allows notaries to travel out of their state to notarize documents. In this case we would also need to put our commissioner information under our signature together with our notary status.

It's generally a good idea to use the raised seal if the document will go to another state - even if it is not required in your state.

Ken

Your question is unclear.

A Notary Public can perform a notarization on any document within the state the notary is commissioned in. The only difference would be making sure the notarization block text complies with the requirements of your state and your perform the notarization act in accordance with your state laws.

I am in CT. A person brings me a document requiring an acknowledgment that is going back to New York State. I identify the person/signer before me in CT according to CT laws. I complete the acknowledgment according to CT laws. I hand the document to the signer and it goes back to New York.
