Not very many make even 5 years in a nursing home. Everyone else is capable of getting a renewed DL or state ID. Anyway, those are my thoughts on this. One other kinda scary thing, this is VA...they of the Remote Online Notarization. So, if it also applies to that, it's a very bad idea...and national!

Why not have that law for everyone. 5 years after issue date is still fairly recent. Why not 6 years?

I think it's a compassionate law. You're still you even tho' your Drivers License expired. Plus people in nursing homes have a LOT of secondary IDs without the needed photo... SS, Medicare. People don't plan on having a health issue that sends them to a nursing home and the longer you're in one, the less likely that you're ever going home. Yet this is exactly when you really do need to take care of a lot of things that need notarizing...POAs, Wills.

A new bill passed in Virginia to allow people in nursing homes to use expired ID if it was issued within the last five years. Any thoughts?
