One person commented on our blog that 123notary should not quiz people on Notary knowledge after they have had a hard day of doing signings. But, that we should teach people marketing.

Here are my comments.
97% of Notaries on our site do not have passable industry knowledge and that is after I removed thousands of Notaries for performing on an F level. If I took stats before the removal it would be 98.5% of Notaries on our site do not have passable notary skills. Those are pretty shocking numbers and that is why I need to test people. I need to separate the D's from the F's primarily, but once in a while I find an A or B who did not bother to take our test because they already know they are good, therefor others should just take their word for it.

People who hire notaries do not know you are good. And you assuring them that you are good means a lot less than an impartial agency who quizzes Notaries as part of their business model like us. NNA certification additionally means very little as those who pass it get about 40% on our questions. So, bragging to me that you are "Certified" is synonomous to saying, "I'm at the 40% level -- I'm so great." The spirit behind what you say is the opposite of what I hear. You are saying, "I'm so smart." I am hearing, "I'm so dumb."

Being 123notary IS help with marketing. Proving your knowledge makes people more likely to hire you.

We also have Notary Marketing 102 on our blog which is excellent, and very few people have read it or commented on it. Carmen and I give routine help with marketing.

I even give pep talks by phone to help people with getting reviews which is the central most important marketing issue you have to deal with online.

Additionally, having a good notes section is central to getting work. However, we hardly ever get people asking for help with their notes.

In short, unfortunately, very few people want our help, and the result is that they are not getting the maximum amount of business they could get. I would love to help people with marketing, but I get hardly any serious inquiries.

Most people just want to have a very short and ineffective notes section, perhaps a review or two, sub-mediocre notary skills, and then want to know how to get more work. Notaries who fit this category need to work on their foundation before they can get any real business. The good news is that the marketing basics such as writing notes, getting reviews, and learning technical basics are not that hard and we help people with this often for free. You're welcome!
