Notary fees for structured settlements, in my experience, are paid out of the commission earned by the agent; not the company. To me these are always paid prior to any printing or travel. Similar to hospital jobs, these have a high risk of "going bad". After getting burned by an agent who works for the company that sings "need cash now" - that's my policy.

Interesting concept, next time I get my car serviced I'm going to tell them I only pay for parts and not for labor. Please avoid getting in front of my car. It probably will have the brakes greased!

Yes I did when I first started and was new to my area here - I also knuckled under to the company who said "we don't pay for travel - only the notarizations". I figured "okay, I can handle this, at least get my foot in the door with them"

I was paid $10/notarization - $100 for the signing. It was a structured settlement outside my home county, a 45 minute ride one way. I get there the guy is shopping it and isn't sure he wants to go with THIS company as he's had better offers - AND he had to fill out most of the forms himself and he did not have the information available (plus a literacy issue) - 2 hours at the table, 90 minutes travel then ANOTHER hour travel round trip to get the package dropped - 5 hour job after all was said and done for $100.00

I sucked it up as a BAD experience and a never again attitude, but I've hated structured settlements ever since...:) I now limit them to my home county and I don't buy the "we only pay for notarizations" line. Oh, and as for getting my foot in the door with the company? I never heard from them again!!!

Grin and bear it or give it back, but you risk loosing the client.
The negotiating should have taken place when the call was initiated.
In 13 years I've made these mistakes (not often thank goodness)and ate them. Meaning I did the job at my loss.

Have you ever priced a signing in the rush of things and realized later that it was more miles than you thought. You ended up pricing the signing too low?
