Linda:
re: As far as being the foremost authority - I've see far too much bad information come out of there to ever trust them to be the foremost authority.
Back when I was a member, I called with what I thought was a simple question.
How does Susan Rice-Jones initial? Does she use SR or SJ or SRJ
"Truly Inept" bounced me from "clueless" to "don't wanna be bothered" several times. And that was after identifying myself as a member!
The ONLY thing that I have EVER found to be of use from the NNA is their "Notary Receipt Book". It's nice, but the rest of the organization makes me hunt for my nose clips.

Hi Linda, Although that infamous Facebook fake wasn't me, he/she/it represents the sentiments of so many notaries. I will say that most notaries do not pursue much notary education unless almost forced to. We offered our certification for free to many and they wouldn't budge -- even though our certification helps people get more jobs from our site!
Anyway, I don't want to be too hard on the NNA, they have helped millions of notaries for years...

I found one post (so far) and have to say that whoever that poster is did bring up a good point, Jeremy -
"I guess the 5000 loans I've signed doesn't qualify me to know what the hell I'm doing. The NNA is ruining this industry."
That post is spot on. This whole SPW thing will do an excellent job of interfering with my ability to make a living. Not to mention the whole IRS slant - I am an independent contractor with over 30 years hands-on experience in this field and working with mortgages and loan documents - I work for ME - I don't work for them and I refuse to be treated not only as an employee, but as a clueless employee.
The NNA is many times referred to as the foremost authority on all things notary - also as the *governing* authority - and neither is the case. My state laws are my foremost and governing authority, as it should be for all notaries nationwide. All the NNA truly is is a centralized outlet to streamline the commissioning and training of notaries - it is a for-profit organization who DOES profit. As far as being the foremost authority - I've see far too much bad information come out of there to ever trust them to be the foremost authority.
Of course, JMO

Gentlemen -- there is an imposter among us! Someone is using a 123 icon with a circle and diagonal cross out on it pretending to be us on Facebook. They went onto the NNA's Facebook and said nasty things about their certification.
123notary is not anti-NNA certification. We just question whether the Title companies collaborated to "force" people to get that certification if they expect to get any business.
Don't worry too much about the imposter. NNA is going to report them to Facebook and have them put out of business!
