Seems to be a trend for SS owners to close their doors owing many notaries for signing fees for which they've been paid. When a file closes, a check is issued to the SS, only they pocket the money and fail to pay notaries. You're not helpless, FIGHT BACK. Organize yourselves.

There are agencies in the State of California who are very interesting in the standards of companies operating within the financial/escrow/title agency.

For those of you who are owed money by defunct signing services, check out this site:

http://www.dbo.ca.gov/

There is also an overseer of escrow companies at the CA state level, among other licensees listed below:

http://www.dbo.ca.gov/Licensees/default.asp

Licensees and Industries Regulated by the Department

Affordable Credit Building Opportunities
Banks
Broker-Dealers and Investment Advisers
Business and Industrial Development Corporations (BIDCO)
California Finance Lenders
California Residential Mortgage Lenders
Capital Access Companies
Check Sellers, Bill Payers and Proraters
Credit Unions
Deferred Deposit Originators (commonly known as “Payday Lenders”)
Escrow Agents/ Escrow Law
Foreign (Other Nation) Banks
Foreign (Other State) Banks
Franchises
Industrial Banks
Local Agency Security Program (LASP)
Money Transmitters
Mortgage Loan Originators
Premium Finance Companies
Securities Depository Law
Trust Companies and Departments

It's long overdue for this NSA community to get organized and petition for change in the character and vetting of signing services and the people who own them.
