You might at least look up the other notary at the SOS office to see if there really is another one by the same name with a middle name as well. then you would know if this is a fraudulent notary.

Well you're right and that is basically what I am going to do. I'm not going to seek out the other notary. After a call to the NNA hotline I was advised to report the situation to the secretary of state's office and I will probably do so when they open on monday.

You did nothing wrong and proved it. Not your issue or problem. If you make it your "cause" you might find the other notary very hostile. Forget about it.

This is what happened:

I get a call today from someone investigating a fraudulent loan taken out in his name, which included a signature verification form notarized by someone with the same name as me. I did not recognize the notarized name nor did I have a record of an appointment on that day but nevertheless this was a scary thing to hear.

The good news is that I was sent a photocopy of the form in question and the stamp is clearly not mine. For one thing my stamp includes my middle name and the one in question does not have this. For another the commission number and date are different. So it is clearly not my stamp. *huge sigh of relief*

What I'm wondering, good notaries of 123notary.com, is should I report anything on my end and who should I report it to? The victim here is of course working with authorities and it looks like I am not culpable here but there is the matter of another notary with a similar name out there who has notarized at least one fraudulent form. Could this give me any trouble?

Thanks for your replies
