Exactly how I feel also. Of course if something is ever fishy regarding a signing of an elderly or hospitalized person I going to stop what I'm doing, leave and contact the proper authorities.

But where do they get of with the idea of fining us if we essentially make the wrong judgment call yet not mention anything in regards to training regarding elderly abuse?

Furthermore, in regards to your police comparisons, if they going to make notaries take a more police-like role then I want a badge and I want same type of treatment that is equal to that of police offers. If I get assaulted for doing my job or whatnot I want it to be felony offense.*

(*Not really, just playing devil's advocate)

One more thing, it is our duty that is already embedded in the nature of our positions as public servants to report any such suspicious activity in our journals. They're going a step further now turning us into a form of law enforcement holding us accountable and liable.

Sincerely yours,

Do pollce officers get fined when they don't do their jobs? The tax payer picks up the bill. When police officers commit a crime against a citizen, the tax payers often pick up the bill for that as well in the form of lawsuit judgments paid by the city.

They're thinking of new ways to use Notary Publlics with a new bill proposed for us to monitor potential financial abuse of the elderly in which we would be liable for any such negligence of reasonable cause.
