Somethings to look at. Draw a circle 25 miles from your address. Look at size of population and number of NSAs in that area. Depending on how many in area will have an impact on companies using you. Look at economic factors in your area. High income/low income, unemployment rate. I'm next to a county with the highest unemployment rates in state. I get very few calls for that area. I'm near an area with lots of highend homes near a lake. I go there more often.

If you are one of a few in your county vs. a bunch of 10 yr 2000 signing NSAs you may have a better chance of getting started.

If you have no track record but are certified by 123Notary or NNA, you will have a better chance of getting your foot in the door.

Be flexable. If can go wrong it will.

Work with your scheduler. If he calls and you can't do something, always offer a plan B. He has a hard job at times and If he can't find anyone he may go with your plan B if the client/title is flexable.

Become the go to guy for problems. Example a Notary had a 2PM of a Friday, That Notary stepped on it and upset the client. I was called at 205 to take over. At 220 I was at bank with package.

Welcome to our ranks. You'll find all kinds of information and Notaries who are willing to help you get going.

@cw2usarmyret is correct, it's tough to get going. I have found that there are several services that will work with you. Nations Direct (no flames please) is willing to work with new notaries, so contact them at 1-800-969-7779 and ask for the assignment desk. Tell them where you live and ask if they have work in your area...given the number of jobs they have, it's very likely.

You'll have to register with a lot of signing services, you can sign up directly at their websites, so try Title Source, Title Resource Group, and Service Link. There are other notary look up groups like 123Notary.com but you'll have to find those on your own.

Good luck. It it a good part time job, better than most, but remember to ALWAYS be professional and represent our profession well.

Until you get a track record, most title companies will not deal with you. They do not want you learning (i.e. making mistakes on their dime). Start by signing up with as many compnaies as you can that work in your area. Go through the forums for the good ones. The bad ones are always on the lookout for newbys for fresh meat, since they may not know any better.

I am just starting out and was wondering if it is necessary to go through signing agencies. I have not signed up through a signing agency and have received a few calls over the last week to do signings (I'm looking to do only part-time). I keep hearing people talking about signing agencies, but I really don't want a middle man taking a cut. Has anyone just put their name on a few notary websites and had success without engaging with a signing agency? Thank you!
