Thought it was clear - guess I need to rephrase..

Never use an ack where a jurat is required

Yes you attach it, per the newsletter - but not an ack on a sworn statement..

Never attach?

I followed the link (3rd one) and found:

The certificate of acknowledgment must
be endorsed on or stapled to the
instrument. Taping or paper-clipping the
certificate of acknowledgment to the
document is not permitted.

Congratulations on obtaining your commission. To answer your question..

1. You never attach an ack to an affidavit
2. As for attaching certs to docs, your Secretary of State issued a newslater earlier this year addressing this very issue -

I would suggest your download your handbook from the SOS website, read it, memorize it and know your notary laws and procedures cold. Also read that newsletter. Both can be obtained here

http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/

Handbook

http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/handbook.htm

Newsletter

http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/newsletter.htm

Read Read Read...study study study...and keep these links handy - these links, especially the handbook, are your bible for what you can do and how you can do it - despite what some hiring parties may tell you when they say "oh it's okay...all our notaries do it that way" (and you WILL hear that from people who just want to get the job done at any cost, including illegal actions by the notary) ... rely on your handbook...print out a copy and have it handy for reference at all times.

Good Luck.

Hello everyone,

I just received my notary stamp a day ago. I haven't notarized anything yet. I have a question for all you experienced notaries. What is the best way to attach documents to each other? Let's say for example I want to attach an acknowledgement certificate to an affidavit. Is simply stapling the two documents ok? Your comments are appreciated
