He paid me for the loans that closed, but has not paid me for two loans that did not close even though I printed all the documents and arrived at the two different closings on time. I sent him a certified letter about the outstanding invoices, but the letter was returned unclaimed.

Thank-you,

The check arrived today for this closing. So, he paid in less than 30 days.

I did speak with him the day after my earlier post and he explained that the State of FL charges more to reactivate a corporation that missed its filing deadline than they do to activate a new corporation, and he trusted the wrong person to file his report and pay the filing fee, so that explains why he has two corporations (one active and one inactive) with similar names.

He also went on at some length about his background in sales and other things, to the point that I sort of lost the thread of why he was telling me all this.

In any case, he was nice on the phone, he explained the things that had made me nervous and he paid promptly. I would give him 4 stars at this point. If he calls again, I will gladly work with him.

I have not worked for them before, but Jack P. Jones from Empire Closings called me today with a last-minute closing 1 county away. They agreed to my fee and were very nice.

Of course, the man who called praised my work and spoke of the 300-400 closings per month they do, saying they would definitely use me again for anything in this area. (So many of them do this that I tune it out, as it really means nothing. Send me a contract saying you will assign x-number per month at such-and-such a guaranteed rate and I will take you seriously.)

Now that I am looking at the emails they sent, their address is not on anything, just 2 email addresses (one on gmail and one on hotmail). The phone number he gave me is his personal cell phone, not a landline.

So, I did a google search and all the secondary sites came up with an inactive corporation in Florida (Empire Closings and something). I finally went to the State of Florida website and looked it up.

There IS an inactive corporation by that name. There is also an ACTIVE corporation named Empire Closings, Corp. Its registered agent and president is Jack P. Jones, address is same as his own address: 1991 Brady Grove Road, Titusville FL 32796.

My best guess is they were incorporated under the longer name, something happened and they let that corporation die; then reincorporated under the shorter name. Whether that something was bad for them, bad for the notaries or both, I have no idea.

For now, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I intend to call them in the morning to ask a few questions before shipping back the docs (from the closing that wrapped up too late tonight to ship back anyway).
