I doubt if most vehicles are maintained well enough to cruise at 90 MPH (most everyone does "5 over"). Tires have a speed rating, hi speed tires are more expensive. Ignoring the voracious appetite for gas, there is a much greater risk of looking at the daises from the root end.

Unless your car is up to the task AND you have taken advanced training in how to handle a car as such high speeds - the risk is not worth the time saved.

You can easily spot me on the highway. I'm the one doing 55 in the right lane; even if the limit is 65. Not wanting to be a pokey hazard I limit my "slowness" to 10 UNDER the limit. I would avoid that road not wanting to drive 75 MPH - my 5 year old Honda Civic probably can do that without a problem - but I doubt if I could handle a blowout at that speed - or avoid a deer.

Speed Kills.

Texas is testing a 41 mile strip of highway that they are making an 85 mph zone. This will be between Austin and Seguin. A few sparsely populated highways in West Texas and Utah have 80mph zones.

If they have an 85 mph zone in California it wouldn't help because the traffic is too thick.
