Okay got it. I agree we should not work for nothing. I agree if I make a mistake I fix it on my dime. I agree that someone maybe several involved were unprofessional regarding this closing.

1/ the SS! They should pay you for your time and expense, regardless of what happens to the loan, of if they get paid, or if they just don’t currently have the money. They hired you they OWE you; they should pay you…end of story! 2/ the EO and her manager at Title, they did not hire you they shouldn’t even be in touch with you. 3/ If the LO had done his job correctly, and been in touch with the borrower, and the Title Company checking the paperwork before the closing appointment, most likely NONE of this would have happened.

It sounds to me like you got some ditzy Escrow Officer that hasn’t a clue. (yeah… there are good ones, and bad ones…some OJT and some experienced) As for the LO…Same deal! Plus to be a good LO one must take a liars test and pass it. Meaning they need to know how to do it well ! I have almost NEVER been able to speak with, or had the borrower able to talk to a LO after 5 on a Friday evening, or on a weekend, mostly ALL calls go direct to voice mail.

If you get a call from Margo (not Westlake Village) take it…she’s good. JMO

Re Les_CO:

Not complaining about the reduce pay. I stated in my comment I know thats a signing issue. I'm complaining about how TICOR Title felt it was alright to tell their signer to beg me for a free third signing after THEY failed to close the previous two. Or do you think we should work for free?

If I screw up, the mistake is fixed on my time and dime. If the signing or title company screws up then I'm more than happy to redo the signing but unfortunately their mistake will cost them, just like mine cost me. I don't think this is unfair. Nearly every contract I sign states either I must fix my mistake(s) if I'm to be paid or my pay is reduced for each mistake made.

I was also commenting about Ticor's lack of professionalism. Never have I had a signer call thier loan agent and the loan agent refused to get back to them asap while the signing took place. The loan officer acted as if he couldn't be bothered. Never seen that happen before and 99% of my other signings close the first time.

Regarding your comment about Ticor Title being a large company, fair enough. I'm refering to their California Office in Westlake Village. Perhaps their other branches are better staffed.

I’d say your problem is with the Signing Company that hired you. Most good Signing Companies pay for work done…If I print, and the closing cancels…I get a print fee. If I print and go and the borrower does not show up/refuses to sign/or rescinds I get my full fee. If you agreed to a different deal…well so be it.
Also Ticor is a big outfit. It could depend on the particular office? I have worked directly with the Tustin CA office for years, and never had a problem, and I will gladly take as many assignments they will give me.

NUMEROUS FAILED CLOSINGS
FAILURE TO PAY SIGNING COMPANY

I did a signing a month ago for Ticor Title through a signing company.

The title company failed to close twice, do to no error on my part. Unfortunately the signing company I did the signing through reduces payment for non-closings. Now I know that a Signing Company issue and I'll have to make a decision whether I want to continue working with said company but I'm singling out the Title Company because they did something that really ticked me off.

A week after I completed the 2nd signing and signer contacted me informing me the signing didn't close yet again and that he was upset. After confirming that the reason why it didn't close was due to the Title Company failure to collect the needed information and not a failure of my own I told the signer I was sorry it didn't close but that I have no power over the actions of the Title Company.

Well apparently the main reason why he was calling me was due to the fact that the signing company had the nerve to suggest to him that he contact me and see if I was willing to do a third signing FREE OF CHARGE. I told him straight up I was not willing to do that as the failure to close was not of my fault and instead turn it around on the Title Company and demand they cover the expenses, and if not do what he had to do (which sounded like canceling the refi and take them to court). I don't make a habbit of doing this as I like to remain neutral between disputes between title companies and signers, but I felt it was ridiculous for the signing company to suggest I give freebees for THEIR mistakes.

I knew this was going to go bad as soon as the signer's Agent refused contact the signer right away regarding a question he had during the first signing. I've never had that happen in a signing before...

In any case I just wanted to warn others that if they get a signing involving Ticor Title make sure it's through a signing company that pays in full no matter if it closes or not, because chances are it won't. Also make sure it's a Signing Company that will pay even if the Title Company doesn't pay them as apparently that's what Ticor has decided to do with the signing company I worked for.
