I dress business/business casual. However, I HAVE gone to a loan signing appt in jeans - last minute call need to do it today - and I was at my office, dress down day. My signer was very respectful to me as was the LO (he was in jeans too and knew I would be) -

I would never intentionally go to a prescheduled signing in jeans - but that's just me and 25 years in law firms where you dressed business attire all the time. For me it's just more professional.

I dress business. I wear a suite or a sports jacket and tie. On a very hot day maybe just a shirt and tie. I treat the borrowers with respect, and treat the signing process as if it’s important to me and to them. They almost always reciprocate.

Some people are very shallow and treat you completely differently depending on how you dress. I lived in Taiwan for 8 months and saw this daily. If I wore an Oxford shirt, people bowed down to me and treated me like the Price of Lexingtonshire. But, if I wore a tee shirt (god forbid), then I was treated like the son of the garbage collecter. Yet, I was still the same person.

Do you guys get better treatment if you wear a good suit, and expensive Italian shoes that are neatly shined all the time?

One notary on NR said he instantly got more respect when he talked about the country club he used to belong to when at a signing with a snobby dentist!
