I receive over half my signing fees "up front" - from regular clients.

For my general notary work it's about 90% - unless it's very close. If it's "out of county" - it's PayPal or declined.

As to the "duds"; most would decline the job automatically; with the assumption that they know the history of the entity giving them the assignment. Rather then decline, offer the "pay now" option - there is no "down side".

Over the past year I have received PayPal "up front" from true "duds" over a dozen times - when they are desperate - and surprise of surprises - when they do call back it's not an "up hill" fight - they have resigned themselves to MY terms. Of course, my web site shows my credit worthiness with much self disclosure and it helps to have an A+ rating with BBB, Chamber of commerce membership, etc.

I will grant credit to any organization that has an A or A+ BBB rating and equally full disclosure about their operation. This eliminates the cell phone only and PO box "fly by night" operations.

To document the fee my emailed PayPal invoice includes details about the assignment - that helps both of us to "keep track".

The absolute Quickly-est is "In Advance". You can improve your cash flow AND accept jobs from slow/no pay "duds" (in complete safety and without payment hassles) - read how on my new blog entry:
