It's really not a "school" thing. The TAKING of fingerprints can be learned relatively quickly - and much practice to develop the "feel" for it follows. The course you were looking at was for the ANALYSIS of prints; EG "Does Mr. Smith's prints match those on the gun?". That analysis part almost always leads to courtroom testimony.......

I don't know of a school for the taking of prints. Most are taught by a cop, then practice and develop their "kit" of supplies and procedures.

From the BBB review:

BBB does not have sufficient background information on this business. BBB made at least two requests for background information from business. BBB has not received a response from business and/or has not been able to verify information received from business.

I would call them and ask why they have a BBB issue.

I went to the school web page - impossible to find an address, phone number, or name of staff, or how they are accredited - take care.

Ken, I'm looking into fingerprinting at this time. I am in NY as well. I'm looking at an online course with Academy of Investigational Services and Training. The course seems legit. Have you heard anything about this type of course.

Sorry, I don't know about TN; but I do know about NY.

NY does not have any fingerprinting license. I do a lot of fingerprinting in NY. My research has shown that the legal authority to "certify identity" permits signing as "authorized person" on the card.

The exception is when the card (typically for pistol permits) comes with instructions that mandate that the fingerprinting be done by a police officer. If that requirement is in place. it's a good idea to have to officer use whatever "rubber stamp" they have on the back of the card to show that it was "police processed".

I always ask my clients to return one of my business cards with the submitted prints. Over the past decade I had one "challenge" to my authority. That was from the Chairman of the NY State Liquor Authority; asking for my "fingerprinting license". As NY does not issue such a license (I wish they did) I sent my Notary ID. I received a personal call indicating they would "investigate". Two days later they called and told me the cards would be accepted.

Proper fingerprinting is difficult to master and requires quite a bit of proper equipment and very close attention to environment (not hot or humid) and procedure. Go carefully here as the processing takes a long time for FBI clearance and clients can become very upset if prints are rejected. I doubt if this work is covered by E&O.

Anyone know if a license is required for offering ink rolled finger printing in TN?
