I used to do $50 Wells Fargo auto loans through NotaryDirect. Got suckered into a few because I was told they were "easy", only 50 pages (borrower's copies included), blah blah blah.
I caught on real quick that it was not worth the time and hassle.
You had to fax back the entire package for quality control and there could never be any errors (the slightest write-over or cross-out and it gets rejected). It was aggravating having to climb into their car to record the current mileage and searching for the cleverly hidden VIN numbers (not fun in the freezing cold winter or heat of summer!).
I finally asked them to take me off their call list for auto loan signings. |

Speaking of Maverick, they offer an Auto Loan signing course for $35. I found the packet useful and the test is easy to pass. Was it worth $35 though? Not really, but part of the deal was that I would be registered with Maverick and their sister company AMS. At the time I was hearing they were providing a lot of work in California due to some bill that was passed that made it an ideal time to purchase a car, I don't know the details though.
Thing is I never heard from them and when I called a month later they didn't have me in their vendor list, despite PAYING for the test, and PASSING it. Took me two weeks for it to be corrected but I wouldn't be surprised if I still wasn't listed.
Took a gamble based on info from a reliable source and it ended up not paying off. Live and learn.

Last year I did a bunch of these for Maverick, usually involving out of state purchase of a new car. No edoc, as special forms are used. One unusual quirk. Sometimes a "carbonless" multi-part form has to be notarized. Take special care here - as each part needs an original signature from both the borrower and the notary. Also, be sure to rubber stamp all copies. Basically each of the "copies" has to be processed as a separate document.
My fee was $75 and I processed many. I have not heard from Maverick in a while..... Also, care must be taken to review the forms - many have a required "fill in" in the body of the page. They are very different from loan docs, but take about the same time to complete as an 80 page package.
Each package will be totally different, as there are dealer docs and related state motor vehicle docs. Physically, they are about 20 pages; but the work is "inspecting" them to figure out where all the entries are to be made.
20-40$ is a "walk away" - you need to review "up front" to find what is required. Oddly, there is usually NO borrower copy. That has annoyed several signers; who insisted on making a photocopy of the complete set. That is not always an easy task as there are frequently forms that are three feet long (no kidding).
The "carbonless" forms require a HARD pressure with a ballpoint pen to get the bottom copy (can be 4-5) readable. This can be a major problem as few signers will maintain the required pressure; and you have to keep checking the bottom copy for readability.
Getting paid can be a major problem as you are working for an individual sales rep, not the dealership in most cases. After a deal "folded" and the rep said "I make no money - you make no money" - I put these in my pay up front on the web site category.

Has anyone done any auto signings? If so, what do you charge? What exactly does it consist of? I keep getting calls for them, but they only want to pay $20-$40 so I have never taken one of these jobs. I havent done one so I dont know what all it consists of and what I should charge. Regardless, I usually charge $50 for the smallest packages, ie: debt consolidation or annuities. Any info would be appreciated and feel free to email me personally if you dont want to post it here.
