It's more than making it look good. The documents put you in the front ranks when the shooting starts. I rarely sign anything unless the affiant signs first and I am notarizing a signature. I know, you know; but for the benefit of the newbies out there: We are Notaries, we notarize signatures - Not make statements of fact. I been doing this over a decade and have not been in a courtroom; and don't intend to.

Ken, I was referring to the signup package - these were all requirements to sign up with the company!! Had nothing to do with the signing assignment...

Like I said - baffle 'em...:)

I was just asked yesterday for a copy of my D/L, copy of my SS card (if not using an EIN, which I do) and copy of my stamp - all of which I refused; I also had an agreement to sign, parts of which were I'd carry worker's compensation insurance and auto insurance (crossed it out); non-compete (crossed it out); and held them harmless from any damage to any of their equipment. Then there was 3-4 pages of Identity Theft Prevention Training - all directed at employees, and a certification to sign at the end that I, the employee, have been trained. I refused to sign that as I am not an employee. Then, after going through all this I ended up turning the assignment back - it was a debt consolidation where they wanted me to collect funds and I don't get involved if cash on the table is involved.

I don't send my drivers license. I may make an exception for a large national title company, but I do not send my D/L to a signing service. If I lose out on jobs from that company, then so be it.

I have rarely been asked for a resume but have sent it the few times I have been asked for it.

A copy of the notary commission is a common item to be asked for, and I send it via pdf. I did put a watermark on it that says something like "COURTESY COPY ONLY - NOT VALID FOR ORDERING NOTARY SUPPLIES". If you do not have a way to put a watermark on it, then just print out a copy, write it on there in sharpie pen, and make a pdf of that. (There are free pdf programs available online.) I keep that in my computer and email it when requested.

I have been asked to send the following:
Copy of driver's license
resume
Notary certificate

Is this standard? I feel very uncomfortable sending in my driver's license. I have already done a signing for this company. Now they want to verify whether I have a valid driver's license?
