Just show them your photo-ID and your notary seal which proves that the secretary of state thinks that you are okay. We had another notary in TN who went into the boondocks to a signing. The signer said, "Is that a gun that you have in that there bag?". She said, "No, its a journal".

Last November I had the most bizarre closing. It started with the Mapquest directions that led me two hours up north, with the last 20 miles being a snowmobile trail. I thought to myself “Wow, these people are really isolated!” There were about 50 cats roaming all over the house, and the house looked like it hadn’t been cleaned since it was built, which must have been sometime in the 1800’s. I said to the Mrs. “Is this a dirt floor? I haven’t seen one of these since my trip to the Dominican Republic 40 years ago.” The Mrs. says “Dirt floor? This ain’t no dirt floor mister.” Well, okay then.
Since I couldn’t find a clean place to put my briefcase on, I had to hold it on my lap, along with a cat or two. Thank God I’m not allergic to cats, because they sure didn’t appear to be allergic to me. The Mrs. was rather suspicious of me. Maybe I looked out of place with my tie and shiny penny loafers. I don’t know. She kept whispering something unintelligible to the Mr., and then she’d look nervously in my direction. “Sit down Ma!” the Mr. finally said. The Mrs. sat down, and eventually began warming up to me. “Mister, why ain’t you got no name tag or nothin’?” I assured her that I was legit, and I even petted a cat or two to solidify the deal. She kept an eye on me the entire time. Several times I would hear a hissing sound, but I finally figured out that was coming from her, and not one of the cats.
“What’s yer name again, Mister?” She kept asking. The Mr. just ignored her curiosity – after all, curiosity has been known to kill a cat. I proceeded to work my way through the stack of paperwork like there was a tornado approaching and I needed to take cover somewhere; anywhere but here. ““If’n yer here to rob us, you best be told we keep a rifle in pantry, and we ain’t afeared to use it.” I had to bite my tongue at that point, otherwise I would have told her that if I didn’t get out of there in the next ten minutes, I may be tempted to use that rifle on myself. Sometimes I think I don’t make nearly enough money as a signing agent.
