The snowstorm This story is based on a a real experience that one of our notaries had. In real life, the notary was stuck at home without phone service for days. But, I'm dressing this story up to make it more interesting. It started on a normal day It was a Wednesday, and Sally accepted a notary assignment 20 miles away from her Colorado house. The weatherman had suggested that it might snow, but Sally was busy working and didn't pay attention. Sally was on the road when she accepted this job. She later went home, but it started to snow on her way home. By the time she reached her elongated driveway, it had become a white-out. Nobody would see where they were going, and it would be impossible to distinguish if you were on the road or not. These trecherous conditions were a way of life for these Colorado mountain types, but being used to danger, doesn't make it less dangerous. Winds started howling, and the snow got worse and worse. Conditions changed A few hours passed, and it was time for Sally to go to her signing. She ventured down the road, but there was a tree that fell down blocking the road. The snow was still coming down hard, and Sally didn't have too many choices at this point. She would go home and call the signign company and explain to them what had happened. She got home, took off her boots, and made her way to the phone. The phone was dead. Aparantly, the heavy winds and snow accumulation had caused a tree to fall on the phone lines at some stage of the pipeline. There was no cell phone service in her area. It looks like this would be a case of no-show no-call, but with a very good excuse. Winners never quit Sally was not the type to let others down. But, she didn't even know if the signers would be at home during this storm, or if they would even want to sign. Sally decided to think about it for a while. She popped in one of her favorite movies that she had on DVD at home. It was one of those Halloween movies. Sure enough, after 15 minutes, a crazy guy wearing a ski mask came out with a chain saw and started chasing people around. This gave Sally an idea. The fallen tree, was only a tree. Trees can be cut, and it doesn't take long. The snow was no longer a white-out, and a little perseverence would get the job done. Off to cut the tree So, sally grabbed her hockey mask and her chain saw, and gas can, loaded up the pick-up truck, and off she went. This tree was big, but Sally was fired up from watching video. Her experience with the tree at this point was no more an act of drudgery, but was more like an action movie or computer game. Who would win? Sally,or the tree? Sally was now in her "Freddie" mentality, and all she could think of was, "I'm going to get you -- TREE!". rrrooooom..... rrrroooooom... the sound of the chain saw caused adrenelin in her system. She was ready to make kung-pao out of that tree. The cutting started The cutting started. It took forever. The excitement was still flowing. There would be no way to move a tree of that enormity without cutting into at least six piecs. That is a lot of sawing. It was so thick, that each cut had to have multiple incisions. She made it to two complete cuts, and got progressively tired. She was not in the same shape she was in a few years ago. She was ready to give up and go home. But, then... what was this? Flashing lights? It was city maintenance. They had heard about the tree, and had come to cut it up and remove it, or at least dump it by the side of the road. To the rescue It took the city guys only 20 minutes to get the job done. They advised Sally to stay at home, but Sally said, "No, I have a job to do!". Sally got to her assignment two hours late. The couple signing the loan said, "We still can't figure out how you made it here". Sally said that it was a combination of guts, determination and insanity. The couple said, "And what can we call you dear?". Sally said, "Just call me Freddie!".
