LOL! Yep! I have heard that one before.
Today, I had a son calling about his hospitalized father wanting his father to sign a Power of Attorney. He couldn't grasp the reason why I would need to see his Dads Valid ID for purposes of notarization. (ummm...that is the main purpose of a Notary...to verify the identity of someone executing a document)
I still see the humor in this...it happens alot!

Shannon, i agree with you! Indeed, what seems to be an easy understandable notary task is most often misunderstood by the public. Have you ever had people call you "Notary Republic"?
This is funny, but I get called that way a lot!

I agree. One problem with most Internet notary forums is there is no provision for posting a scan of the document that someone has a question about (one hopes anyone posting a scan would black out any personal information). The summary of the situation given by the person asking a question often leaves out crucial information. |

While I am quite serious about being a Notary Public and perhaps even more serious about being a Notary Signing Agent, I have learned to find the humor in Notary life too. We must not go to a place where we forget that being a Notary is also being human.
I am sometimes annoyed by the amount of disinformation that is out there relating to Notary work. This confuses an already puzzled public about what a Notary is and is not. When we fail to be specific or more importantly when we fail to fully explain that Notary rules vary greatly from state to state and are truly just total insanity outside the U.S., It is no wonder the public gets confused.
But, when bantering in a forum, or on facebook and twitter, the banter is by design short. These formats make it all the more important to be concise and complete and specific. If not, we are merely dribbling misinformation into a vast wasteland of disinformation and we further confuse John Q. Public about what a Notary is/is not and can/cannot do.
Aside from that, enjoy social media! Poke fun at friends, make people laugh and look at it as a way to get your name out there while urging others to pull that stick out of their rear end!
